Ben Young, Publisher and Editor In Chief of Georgia Trend, was born in Dalton in 1971. He attended Savannah Country Day School from 1987 to 1990, and Wake Forest University from 1990 to 1993, where he graduated with honors (the Eleanor Layfield Davis Art Scholarship and the Presidential Art Scholarship). Working in newspapers from 1994 to 2001, he served in management capacities and covered the local crime beat among other subjects. During this period he moonlighted as a record label producer for Old Gold, representing Howard Finster among other and distributed in 20 countries, and cofounded the Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery in Atlanta. In 2002 he joined Georgia Trend and married. In 2008 he had a son. Young is a graduate of Regional Leadership Institute, the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership, and serves on the board of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Georgia Forward. In his spare time he is still active in creative fields and volunteers at the United Methodist Children's Home near his residence in Avondale Estates.
